Collapse investigation calls for improvements in Network Rail inspections

Shortcomings in design, inspection and maintenance meant that heavy corrosion was allowed to develop in a rail bridge that collapsed in Scotland last year, according to a report published today by the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB). RAIB has recommended 11 actions for Network Rail including improvements in the examination of hidden critical parts of structures.
