A four day project to replace a 110m-long section of the Bay Bridge is proceeding on schedule in California, USA, and is due for completion by contractor CC Myers tomorrow.
The new structure had been built on a moveable support system south of the 70-year-old bridge. The crossing was then closed to traffic enabling demolition of the original section. Tracks on the bridge's lower deck enable the new length to be rolled into position. The work is part of the seismic upgrade to the bridge and the new section of road will eventually connect to the bridge's new East Span, which is under construction.
