US consultants Parsons Brinckerhoff and Weidlinger Associates have formed an alliance to provide blast analysis and counter-terrorism mitigation services for public transportation systems, bridges, airports, buildings and other infrastructure. The alliance of PB and Weidlinger will offer comprehensive services to safeguard infrastructure and buildings from terrorist attacks. The team will assess how vulnerable a facility is, analyse the possible damage from explosions or other impacts, and develop recommendations to make the facility more secure. Parsons Brinckerhoff is currently providing engineering and technical services to the US Department of Defense's Center for National Response, which is using an abandoned highway tunnel in Standard, West Virginia, to provide counter-terrorism training for federal, state and local first responders. Weidlinger Associates has specialist expertise in using simulation and computational tools to assess the effects of explosions and other impacts on structures - since 1950 the company has provided blast analysis services for military and civilian structures.
