Shanghai Construction Group has announced the completion of the main structure of the Minpu Bridge in Shanghai, China. Construction of the Puxi-side tower of the bridge finished yesterday, following September's completion of the tower in Pudong.
The two-storey crossing of the Huangpu River is being built to improve traffic flow to Pudong International Airport. The bridge will be 3,610m long, with a 1,212m span over the river. The upper level will be a 120km/h expressway with eight traffic lanes and the lower level will carry six lanes with a speed limit of 60km/h.
Work will now continue on the bridge's deck and the contractor plans to finish the project before the end of 2009, ahead of the World Expo 2010.
