Triborough Bridge & Tunnel Authority has awarded the New York district office of American Bridge Company a U$41.1 million contract for structural retrofit work to the Throgs Neck Bridge.
The structure, which was built by American Bridge in 1961, is a 4,087m crossing of Long Island Sound with a three-span, 886m-long suspension bridge as its main section.
The project consists of various retrofits to the main cables, suspension ropes, towers and anchorages. Construction begins in March and is scheduled to be completed by July 2009.
