Construction of a new cable-stayed bridge designed by Santiago Calatrava is expected to start next year in the Republic of Ireland, after the scheme in Dublin was granted planning permission last week. The 120m long road bridge will cross the River Liffey just downstream from the city centre and is designed to rotate in order to allow ships to pass. It will be 26m wide with two traffic lanes in each direction, pedestrian walkways and cycleways.
