TRC Companies has announced that it has been awarded a contract to provide design and construction support services for the complete rehabilitation of the US 190 Old Mississippi River Bridge in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA.

The contract with Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LA DOTD) is worth between US$1.5 million to US$3 million.

The Old Mississippi River Bridge, built in 1940, is a 3,720m-long steel truss structure. In 2005, TRC conducted an in-depth inspection of the bridge, which revealed signs of deterioration. TRC will be prime consultant for the rehabilitation, which includes approximately 40 to 50 steel and/or concrete structural repairs, the application of an epoxy co-polymer overlay to the bridge deck and removal of deteriorating lead-based paint with application of a new coating system.

The US$80 million project to extend the life of the bridge and prevent further deterioration is scheduled to begin in approximately two years.
