The Chinese government has given the go-ahead for the world's longest cable-stayed bridge. The new crossing, over the Yangtze River in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, will have a main span of 1088m, beating Japan's current world-record holding Tatara Bridge by 198m, and controversially scooping the title from the planned 1018m main span Stonecutters Bridge in Hong Kong.
