New Brunswick Ministry of Transportation has awarded SNC-Lavalin an engineering, procurement and construction contract for the rehabilitation of the Princess Margaret Bridge in Fredericton, Canada.

The 1,098m-long bridge was built in 1957 and its condition led to a reduction in weight limits being imposted in November. The new contract will lead to reinstatement of the original 62.5t weight limit through tasks including removal and replacement of the bridge deck and floor beams, refurbishment of the structural steelwork and capping of the piers and abutments.

Work is set to begin immediately with an expected completion date of December 2011.
