Bids are to be invited in June for the construction of a new cable-stayed bridge near Greenville, Mississippi, which is claimed to be the longest of its type in the USA. The cable-stayed structure will have a main span of 420m and will cost around US$100 million to build - it will form the first phase of four to build the entire crossing. Further phases involve construction of the road and bridge approaches, as well as removal of the existing 60 year old crossing. Consultant HNTB is working for the Mississippi Department of Transportation as project manager.
