NEWS / Izmit Bay Crossing passes wind tunnel test

Wind tunnel tests for Turkey’s Izmit Bay Crossing have been carried out at the Politecnico di Milano in Italy.

Turkey’s transport minister Binali Yildirim watched the testing in which the bridge model withstood winds up to 230km/h.

The crossing is to built under build-operate-transfer project. It is part of the 400km long Gebze-Orhangazi-Izmir motorway.

The suspension bridge will have a main span of approximately 1,500m and an overall length of approximately 3,000m. Its southern approach viaduct is approximately 1,400m long and crosses part of the North Anatolian fault.
