Russian prime minister Dmitry Medvedev has led the inauguration celebrations for the record-breaking bridge that crosses Eastern Bosphorus Strait.

The bridge connects the main part of Vladivostok to Russky Island, where the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders’ summit will take place this year.

The cable-stayed bridge has a 1,104m-long central span, which takes the record for the world's longest from the 1,088m of China's Sutong Bridge. Its towers stand more than 320m high.

OJSC USK Most was appointed as the sole contractor in August 2008 and the scheme’s designer is NPO Mostovik.

Medvedev warmly congratulated the builders. “I am really very proud of being with you today and having a chance to be among the first people to travel over this beautiful unique structure.” During the ceremony, Medvedev noted that the bridge has already become a city symbol.
