The main span of the new Hastings Bridge in the US state of Minnesota was floated and lifted into place at the weekend.

The structure's main span is made up of 166m-long tied arches. It was moored in the river prior to being lifted into place.

Work on the US$120 million project began in October 2010. Two lanes of traffic will switch from the old bridge to the new structure in 2013. All four lanes should be open to traffic by the end of 2013, with construction completed in spring 2014.
