Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Mumbai, India has signed a memorandum of understanding with the surface transport ministry (MoST) and Gurajat government to construct a two-lane bridge across the River Wartak. The BOT (build, own, transfer) scheme on National Highway 8, near the city of Kheda, involves renovation of the existing bridge, which will be one way, and construction of a new 253.2m bridge (8.75km with its approach roads). Work on the US$10 million scheme was to start in May 1999 with completion scheduled for April 2001. The company will recover the project cost by collecting tolls.
