The US$769,000 contract involves the design work for the project to increase the height of nine bridges over the I-35 highway between Tonkawa and the Kansas state line in Kay County. The construction cost of raising the bridges has been estimated at US$3 million.

Raising the height of bridges that are in good condition will allow addition of a pavement overlay to highways while maintaining adequate clearance for truck loads in a way that is cost-effective and minimises disruption to traffic, said ODOT.
