Contract let for multi-purpose bridge
Published:  March 19, 2008

New Zealand railway infrastructure Ontrack has awards a contract to HEB Smithbridge to build a road and rail bridge at Arahura. The new structure, which is jointly funded by Transit NZ, will replace an existing 120-year-old timber bridge which provides the only direct route between Greymouth and Hokitika but is nearing the end of its serviceable life.

The 220m-long concrete and steel bridge will have nine spans and will carry a two-lane highway, railway line and pedestrian-cycleway.

HEB Smithbridge is expected to start on site by late April and completion of the bridge in due by early 2010.
