Transport Canada proposes new safety regime
Published: March 25, 2008
Owners of Canada's 24 international vehicular bridges and tunnels will be required to inspect and report on the safety of their structures under new proposals from Transport Canada.
The proposed regulations include a requirement for reports every two years on maintenance and operations, including the frequency and type of major maintenance performed, inspection results and any necessary actions to ensure the structures are kept in good condition. The proposals follow on from the International Bridges and Tunnels Act, which formalised the federal government's oversight responsibility for the operation, maintenance and security of the international bridges and tunnels. |
