Giant crane positions new London rail bridge
Published:  March 31, 2008

A bridge was lifted into place over the weekend to form a key part of the new East London line. A 1,200t mobile crane - the UK's biggest - lifted the 350t bow-string bridge into position across Shoreditch High Street.

The structure was manufactured at Fairfield Mabey's workshops in Chepstow and assembled close to its final position. Detailed design is by Benaim and the contractor is Balfour Beatty Carillion.
