Design contract let for I-80 bridge repairs

The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission has ratified the award to Cherry Weber & Associates of a design engineering contract for repairs to the steel bearings, bridge seats and pier caps on the Delaware Water Gap (I-80) Toll Bridge. The bridge, which opened in December 1953, is a 750m-long, multi-span, steel plate structure which carries Interstate 80 across the Delaware River near Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. The need for repairs was identified in the most recent annual inspection report. Engineers will assess the condition of the bearings, bridge seats and pier caps and design necessary repairs. They will also will evaluate the condition of the deck and provide recommendations for future repairs. The work will include a load rating and fatigue evaluation of the existing structure. The contract is worth up to US$391,000. |
