Elbe bridge
Winner chosen for Elbe crossing
Published:  April 02, 2008

Engineer Leonhardt, Andrä und Partner and architects Jean-Jaques Zimmermann and Short Cuts have beaten four other shortlisted teams to win the design competition for a bridge taking the A14 highway over the Elbe River near Wittenberge in Germany.

The announcement was made by DEGES Deutsche Einheit Fernstraßenplanungs-und-bau on behalf of the Government Department for Traffic, Construction & City Development and the Federal States of Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg.

"The new Elbe river bridge will be a landmark but nevertheless contains itself,” said state secretary to the government department and jury member Dr Lütke Dalpdrup. “With its elegant and slender design, the new bridge blends into the great Elbe river landscape naturally. The bridge sets a course, underlines the identity of this part of the landscape and allows for the drivers to experience the landscape."
