New wind strategy sought for Forth Road Bridge
Published:  April 18, 2008

The operators of the Forth Road Bridge have set up a multi-agency working group to seek ways of reducing traffic disruption caused by strong winds. The initiative follows an unusually windy winter, during which two lorries have been blown over and the crossing has been closed to high-sided vehicles for a total of 184 hours.

The working group is considering a broad range of measures, including improving the provision of signs in the surrounding network and bringing charges against those who ignore safety restrictions, said Forth Estuary Transport Authority convenor Tony Martin. Transport Scotland, local police forces and councils are also taking part in the work.
