A new 280m-long bridge over the River Chenab in the state of Jammu & Kashmir was officially opened today by India's prime minister Manmohan Singh.

He complimented the Border Roads Organisation and others associated with the construction of the balanced cantilever bridge for their work on the two year project. “I am happy to learn that in the last financial year the Border Roads Organisation has completed 3,200 meters of bridge construction and this year it aims to attain a target of 5,000 meters,” he added. Construction in the state includes a bridge over the River Ravi, which will further improve intra-state and inter-state connectivity for Jammu & Kashmir.
