Vinci signs causeway contract

Vinci has now signed the contract for the massive Qatar–Bahrain causeway that will reduce journey times from five hours to just 30 minutes. Vinci Construction Grands Projets leads a consortium for the US$3 billion design-build contract which will provide a 40km two-lane dual carriageway motorway between Qatar and Bahrain. The road will run over a total of 18km of embankments where the sea is shallow and 22km of viaducts and bridges over deep water. The project includes two 400m cable-stayed bridges over shipping channels. The construction company joint venture is led by Vinci Construction Grands Projets and also includes QDVC, Hochtief and CCC. Dredging will be carried out by Medco. Work will start after nine months of studies for completion in 51 months.
