Work starts on Brisbane's Hale Street Link
Published:  June 04, 2008

Construction is now under way on the Hale Street Link project in Brisbane, Australia, following a groundbreaking ceremony last month. The scheme's river crossing will be Brisbane's first inner-city vehicle, pedestrian and cycle bridge to be built in more than 20 years.

The 300m balanced cantilever structure includes a three span twin deck bridge with a 117m main span. It will carry four traffic lanes as well as a dedicated pedestrian path on one side and a cycle lane on the other.

The Hale Street Alliance was awarded the project in mid-2007 and developed the preliminary design before the final price was confirmed at US$290 last month. The Alliance is made up of Brisbane City Council, Bouygues Travaux Publics, Macmahon, Seymour Whyte and Hyder Consulting.
