Task force endorses new Columbia River bridge
Published:  June 25, 2008

Representatives of the US states of Washington and Oregon have voted in favour of replacing the Interstate 5 bridge over the Columbia River with a new bridge and light-rail extension.

The task force's recommendation is advisory but gives a boost to the US$4.2 billion Columbia River Crossing project. The scheme involves upgrades to the existing crossing to overcome lengthy traffic delays, reduce the accident rate and safeguard against earthquakes.
