Findings of Can Tho investigation announced
Published:  July 04, 2008

Vietnam's Minister of Construction has reported to the government following the investigation into last September's collapse of the Can Tho Bridge.

Minister Tran Hong Quan said that the primary cause was localised subsidence of the foundation for a key temporary pier. He said that the risk of such localised sinking would have been hard to identify in the design process.

The collapse left 54 people dead and dozens of others injured.

The US$300 million bridge was originally due for completion this year.
