Utah accelerates bridge replacements
Published: July 14, 2008
Utah Department of Transportation is part way through an ambitious programme to replace 12 bridges on or near the I-80 highway in just two months. The latest bridge was moved into position this weekend. The project uses accelerated bridge construction techniques and the bridges are driven into position using self-propelled modular transporters. The techniques were used in a pilot scheme last year and enable traffic delays to be kept to just a few days instead of months, with considerable time and fuel savings for road users. More than 20 bridges across the US state will be replaced this year using various forms of accelerated bridge construction. |
