Published:  July 28, 2008

More than US$1 billion is to be spent on an Iranian project that includes 2.46km-long bridge across the Persian Gulf to Qeshm Island. The plans were announced by the managing director of Qeshm Free Trade Zone, Mohammad Asghari.

He said that the plan has been approved by the government's Infrastructure & Environment Commission and will shortly be discussed in a cabinet session.

The project also includes associated railway, highway and jetty works. The work is aimed at economic development and promoting competition with other free zones in the region.
