Upgrade of Auckland Harbour Bridge begins
Published:  August 06, 2008

Box girder strengthening at New Zealand's Auckland Harbour Bridge has begun this week. The box girders are for 'clip on' lanes either side of the bridge and the project to strengthen them will take two and a half years.

About 760t of steel will be welded and bolted onto both the inside and outside of the girders. Work starts first with the northbound clip-on and this will take until December.
