Mersey Gateway public inquiry starts
Published:  May 19, 2009

A public inquiry begins today into the Mersey Gateway Bridge in north west England.

The inquiry will examine Halton Borough Council's planning applications for the new bridge and associated matters including compulsory land purchase and road user charging.

The proposed crossing has a total length of 2.13km from abutment to abutment. There will be 1km of cable-stayed bridge over the Mersey Estuary, with four spans supported from three towers.
