São Paulo announces bridge to link Guarujá and Santos
Published:  May 25, 2009

The government of Brazil's São Paulo state has announced that a 2.8km road bridge will replace the current ferry service between the coastal cities of Guarujá and Santos.

A tunnel across the estuary had also been under consideration but has now been dismissed as unviable.

The state is already planning a contract that will prepare the basic design this year. The US$247 million project will then be procured by means of a public-private partnership.
