Ideas invited for inhabited London Bridge
Published: June 01, 2009
The Royal Institute of British Architects has launched an ideas competition to mark the 800th anniversary of the opening of the first London Bridge. The Old London Bridge, which opened in 1209, was an inhabited bridge and the competition asks designers to imagine a new version. Designs are to be based on the present structure, which for the purpose of the competition is to be deemed strong enough to carry buildings on its deck. The deadline for submissions is 25 June and the result will be announced on 11 July. The competition is being organised on behalf of The Worshipful Company of Chartered Architects, a livery company of the City of London. |
