International design entries invited for Second Humen Bridge

Guangdong Highway Construction Corporation is inviting design submissions for the Second Bridge of Humen, China. Total investment in the project will be about US$1.8 billion. Navigational spans of more than 1.1km are to be provided in the crossing of two major waterways, the 1.5km-wide Dasha and the 2.4km Nizhou. The Second Humen Bridge was formerly known as Lianhuashan Bridge. The competition calls for a "world class super large bridge". Designs are expected to be "safe and durable, harmonious and attractive, environmental and economic, scientific and innovative". There will be prizes ranging from about US$29,000 to US$293,000 for the six top schemes. All six shortlisted schemes will eventually be exhibited in a museum that will be dedicated to the bridge. Responses are to be submitted between 27 and 31 July. |
