New York and Vermont finalise Lake Champlain Bridge agreement

New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has announced that an agreement has been finalised with with Vermont for the progression of a project to rehabilitate or replace the Lake Champlain Bridge. HTNB Corporation has been selected as design consultant.

The existing 80-year-old structure is a combination of a through-truss, deck-truss and deck plate girders measuring 666m in length on 14 spans. The project to replace or rehabilitate the bridge is at a preliminary stage and construction work is tentatively planned to begin in 2013.

Work is being jointly progressed by NYSDOT and the Vermont Agency of Transportation in conjunction with the USA's Federal Highway Administration.
