Work starts to erect cables of Hunan suspension bridge

Work officially began on Sunday to erect the main cables of the Aizhai Bridge in Hunan, China.

The suspension bridge crosses the Dehang Grand Canyon with a main span of 1,176m and will become part of the Jishou-Chadong Expressway. The two main cables, which have diameters of 855mm and are more than 1,600m long, are due to be in place by the end of this year with the bridge expected to open to traffic at the end of 2011.
