Water supply bridges win NZ gold award
Published: August 19, 2003
A trio of river crossings for a water pipeline has been given a gold award of excellence by the Association of Consulting Engineers New Zealand. The three bridges were designed by Bycroft Petherick and built by Emmett Civil Construction for New Plymouth District Council. Each has a single cable-stayed span over a river or stream in an environmentally sensitive area. The bridges were praised for being attractive as well as functional, in providing support for the pipeline and a walkway. A silver award was given to the Mokau River Bridge, designed by Beca Carter Hollings & Ferner for Transit NZ. The two lane bridge replaces a single lane structure, improving traffic flows and road safety. |
