Ohio River project moves forward
Published:  September 24, 2003

Progress of the Louisville-Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges project has been expedited by an executive order from US president George Bush. “The president’s executive order provided the impetus and structure for us to resolve important issues that resulted in unnecessary delays of much-needed projects,” said transportation secretary Norman Mineta yesterday.

The project includes the construction of two new bridges over the Ohio River between Kentucky and Indiana and the rebuilding of a major interchange.

Mineta also announced three other priority transportation schemes that have been successfully moved forward under the initiative. They are Interstate 80 in Nebraska; the North/South alignment for the community and environmental transportation acceptability process in Riverside County, California and the Chittenden County circumferential highway in Vermont. Nine other projects are still to be cleared.
