Twin ceremonies mark Missouri openings
Published: December 15, 2003
Residents of Missouri in the US were given an early holiday present at the weekend with the opening of two major schemes to relieve congestion. Ceremonies marked the completion of the US$170 million Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge over the Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau and the US$350 million Page Avenue Extension between St Louis and St Charles counties. Bill Emerson Memorial (pictured) is a four-lane, 1230m cable stay bridge that replaces a 75 year old two-lane structure. Page Avenue extension is a 13km, 10-lane road that includes two major bridges - the tied arch Veterans Memorial Bridge spanning the Missouri River and a cast-in-place concrete segmental box girder bridge at Creve Coeur Lake. |
