Six entries unveiled in Cambridge competition

An international field of competitors has submitted designs for a segregated pedestrian and cycle bridge for Cambridge, England. Pictured left from top to bottom, the entries are: Judges will take account of the public’s views as well as technical and financial aspects. The winner will be announced in April. The design brief called for “a visually striking and memorable structure which demonstrates the highest standards of 21st century design and engineering and is appropriate to its site, surroundings and users". Opening is due in 2006. The bridge will be approximately 150 metres long to span both river and flood plain and no less than 3.5 metres wide. |
