Bridge designs unveiled for Singapore walkways
Published: September 08, 2004
Singapore’s Urban Redevelopment Authority has unveiled the selected designs for two bridges and an elevated walkway as part of its plans for a recreational trail for the Southern Ridges hill parks. The 274m Surface Bridge has a sculptural form, made up of five undulating curved ribs forming sheltered alcoves that alternately rise over and under the deck. Its designers are RSP Architects Planners & Engineers in collaboration with IJP Corporation. The 90m Mile-a-Minute Bridge will join up with with a meandering 2.3km walkway. The scheme used the metaphor of the “mile-a-minute” plant as a concept and the bridge is designed to relate to the topography and vegetation of the site. Design is by LOOK Architects and ECAS-EJ Consultants. The two bridges are scheduled for completion by 2007. |
