Messina Bridge: prequalified contractors named

Three international consortia have been shortlisted to build the record-breaking Messina Bridge. They are:

  • Strabag AG with Bouygues Travaux Publics, Dragados, Consorzio Risalto, Baldassini-Tognozzi Costruzioni Generali;

  • Astaldi Spa with Impresa Pizzarotti, Consorzio Cooperative Costruzioni, Grandi Lavori Fincosit, Vianini Lavori, Ghella Spa, Maire Engeneering, Necso Entrecanales Cubiertas, Ferrovial Agroman, Nippon Steel Corporation;

  • Impregilo Spa, Vinci Construction Grands Projets, Società Italiana Per Condotte D’Acqua, Cooperativa Muratori & Cementisti-C.M.C, Sacyr S.A.U., Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries, Consorzio Stabile.

    They have until 20 April 2005 to prepare their tenders for the US$5.57 billion project, which involves building a suspension bridge with a central span of 3.3km over Italy's Strait of Messina.

    Two other consortia failed to meet the stringent prequalification criteria.
