River Wear bridge designers chosen

Architect Spence Associates and structural engineer Techniker have won the competition to design a new vehicle and pedestrian bridge over the River Wear in Sunderland, north-east England. But the council has declined to release any details of the winning concept, which is being kept under wraps until the 'structurally challenging, complex scheme' has been 'resolved'. The bridge will be a major US$80 million structure which will form part of the wider Sunderland strategic transport corridor initiative.
