Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) has called for vendors to submit proposals for the replacement of a bridge across the Seekonk River in the town of Providence.

RIDOT closed the bridge when a critical failure was discovered back in December during rehabilitation. A report by McNary, Bergeron and Johannesen revealed more significant structural deficiencies and recommended replacement of the superstructure and part of the substructure (link opens in new tab).

The 1960s-built bridge was constructed using an unusual technique involving pre-stressed and post-tensioned concrete spans with steel anchors.
