The driver of a truck that was caught in the collapse of a rail bridge on Sunday has died. A train also derailed in the incident near Pueblo, Colorado, USA.

The highway involved is the state’s main north-south route, and it is expected to be closed until investigations are complete. Colorado Department of Transportation has warned this is likely to be an extended closure.

Photos released on social media by Colorado State Patrol show a lorry crushed by the bridge, derailed freight wagons, and coal strewn over the highway.

The sequence of events that led to the bridge collapse is not clear. Also unclear is the ownership of the bridge, although the freight railway line is managed by BNSF. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
