A change in the approach for oversight of projects has enabled RIDOT to move up the contract advertising date from July to late May.

The Providence River Pedestrian Bridge will be built on the piers of the former I-195 corridor and will connect to future parks on both sides of the river. This  structure will provide pedestrians with a new crossing at one of the widest points of the river, linking the East Side of Providence with Downtown Providence.

Designs for the project have been prepared by CDR Maguire, InForm Studio and Buro Happold.
Preliminary construction activities are expected to start this year, with the bulk of construction getting under way in early 2017.

Work on the project, with a total budget of $13.2 million with a budget contingency of $1.5 million, will take approximately two construction seasons to complete.
