Cardno will carry out the detailed design of the new 325m-long crossing, which will be built north of the existing Kings Highway Bridge.
Underwater inspections carried out by Roads & Maritime Services had revealed deterioration of the existing bridge, which was built in 1964.
Site work for the new structure is scheduled to start in 2019 and is due for completion in 2020, after which the old bridge will be removed.
