The southern section of the Renfrew Bridge arrived yesterday (Wednesday) in Scotland by barge after a seven-day journey from the Netherlands.

The 184m cable-stayed twin-leaf bridge will connect Renfrew with Yoker across the Clyde. The section crossed the English Channel and Irish Sea on a barge from the Zwijenburg Shipyard, near its fabrication site in the Netherlands. Involved in the transport were Sarens, Bonn & Mees and HEBO.

Visual concept designs of the new River Clyde bridge produced by Kettle Collective, in collaboration with Sweco.

Civil engineers GRAHAM will now install the bridge. The section was manufactured by Hollandia Infra. The northern section is being made by Smulders Iemants in Belgium.

The bridge is for the use of pedestrians, cyclists and vehicle; and it swings to allow passage of river vessels. It is part of Renfrewshire Council’s Clyde Waterfront and Renfrew Riverside Project. Also in the project are Hardesty & Hanover, Roughan & O’Donovan, Ramboll, Amey, Hycom Engineering, and Fairfield Control Systems (link opens in new tab).
