The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) and developer Nakheel have appointed a contractor to build the bridges, which will have a total length of 1.6km and will cost of US$122 million.

The project includes a two-lane bridge from Deira Islands to Al Khaleej Street northward; a three-lane bridge from Deira Islands to Al Khaleej Street southward, and a two-lane bridge from Al Khaleej Street southward to Deira Islands. A flyover will allow the construction of two further bridges in the future.

Nakheel's Deira Island project consists of four man-made islands reclaimed from the Arabian Gulf along the coast of Deira. It involves the construction of hotels, flats, mixed-use buildings and marinas. The development is expected to attract about 250,000 residents as well as 80,000 employees.
