Bandra-Worli gets go-ahead
The Bandra-Worli sea link project being developed along the coast in Mumbai, India, which includes a 4km-long main bridge and a 1.6km approach road, has finally been cleared by the Indian Environment Ministry, according to local sources. It has been held up because of widespread opposition from environmentalists, fishermen and Bandra residents, led by the former Prime Minister V.P.Singh. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation is hoping to raise US$163 million from the financial markets for the project. It is also proposing an investment of $369 million to extend the link along the coast.
