An investigative report has also been released, covering the 32 bolts that broke on the Bay Bridge in March and review of other bolts on the bridge.
The failed bolts were in an inaccessible location at the east pier and so a retrofit solution had to be devised as straightforward replacement of the rods was impossible. Installation of the steel saddle system chosen for the retrofit is due for completion by 10 December. The opening date will be chosen to tie in with completion of the retrofit as well as to suit weather windows and minimise traffic impacts, as a full four-day closure of the existing bridge is necessary for the transfer to the new span.
The newly published final investigative report lays out at length the chronology of events and assigns responsibility. In addition to the report, thousands of additional pages of documentation and records have also been posted.
